We played table ball today! Ms. Talion taught us some drills to try and then gave us some challenges. Fun was had by all and we are looking forward to doing it again on Thursday. It is a bit like giant ball ping-pong using a dodge ball but totally different. :) Our math warm up today was subitizing. Students love that word! Subitizing is telling the number of objects in a set, quickly, without counting. Think of a dice. When you roll a dice, you don't have to count the dots to know what you have rolled, you have subitized the pattern of pips (dots). When you apply these skills to a greater number of dots, the fun begins. Reminders:
-Fun Lunch on Thursday -No school on Friday, PD Day -Please come to our Halloween Assembly on Wednesday, October 31 at 1:30pm With a little help from Ms. Summers, Mr. Parson's shaved off his beard in front of the whole school today. It was such a wonderful way to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation. He is such a good sport! We had a lockdown practice today. It all went very smoothly in Room 14. We watched how water refracted light to make it look like the straw we put in the container was broken. Here is some of our latest artwork: Reminders:
Do you have any old school appropriate magazines you can donate? We need some for an art project. Travel ones would work really well but we are happy to accept any you may have. Picture day went very smoothly and everyone was here so our group shot will be complete. :)
We started a new art project today that the students are excited about. It is an optical illusion drawing and they learned how to shade an object to make it look curved. Reminders: -If you have some old Grade 4 appropriate magazines at home you are thinking of recycling, please send them in. Our supply is running low. -The children really enjoyed the fun snack today. Our next one is on October 25 so there is still time to order We made some research jot notes together today in Social Studies on the Grassland (prairie) Region of Alberta. Students loved learning about the animals that make this region home. In Language Arts we read the book I Am Peace and talked about what made the book a great book. We logged into Amazon.ca and read the guidelines about writing reviews. Afterwards, as a class, we wrote a review of the book and posted it online. We had a great conversation about how to decide how many stars the class would give a book, how we should structure the comments we have and how we would decide if we thought the book deserved a review. As the year progresses, students will be given the opportunity to write book reviews in groups and post them online as a class. The MRU women's volleyball team came in today to teach the students pro tips and skills with the volleyballs! Miss Talion, our student teacher, was in to visit today too! Reminder:
-Fun snack tomorrow for those that ordered a Cobs scone -Picture Day tomorrow! The Grade 3 Thanksgiving Assembly today was festive and really enjoyable. The Grade 4 classes will be presenting the Halloween Assembly on October 31 so please save that date on your calendar. The surprise Thanksgiving art projects went home today and I hope your child enjoyed sharing them with you. Here are some photos: Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend!

No pictures of that one or it would not be a surprise!
